Whether you make the decision to home school over the summer or after the start of school, you will need to inform the school where your child is enrolled you will be homeschooling. You will be required, in most cases, to provide proof of homeschooling before you will be able to withdraw your child officially. Upon receipt of an application for home school that indicates a student is currently, or last attending, a public/private school –

I C Faith Christian Academy will fax this notification to the school on your behalf. You will need to make contact with the school to officially sign any paperwork required by the school to complete the withdrawal process. Please do not pull your child out of school and wait too long before being signed up with an association. Most, if not all schools, do not allow more than ten (10) unexcused absences during a school year. If you fail to work with the school and properly notify them of your decision to withdraw, you may be in violation of attendance and therefore truant. You can withdraw from both public and private school at anytime during the year. You simply need to determine the last day of school for your child and enroll for homeschooling.

The easiest way is to complete the sign up process using a future last day of school date so you are legally covered for homeschooling before starting.

Consider scheduling a short break in your schooling for this adjustment period. Using this time to secure teaching curriculum, set up your school/classroom area, etc. Many families take extended time during holidays and this is ok to do, just remember you will need to complete 180 days of school during your school year. The more time you take off, the longer your school year will be.

I C Faith Christian Academy may deny applications if students have not been enrolled in school for an unexplainable amount of time. These situations are handled on a case by case basis.
